The US Constitution praises democracy, then disempowers the people in favor of an obscure Electoral College. This was done to ensure that the founding FreeMasons could overturn any popular vote that they did not agree with. Now, it is a useless throwback that thwarts true democracy.
In 2000, Al Gore received 50,999,897 total votes, and Bush only 50,456,002 votes. Gore won the election by over a half million votes. But Bush "won" in Florida by less than 500 votes among hanging chads and Republican-controlled vote counts, and the rest is awful history (the 911 attacks, two foreign wars and the hge economic crash).
So America is not a real democracy. This popular idea is mere propaganda that our schools and TV spoon-feed us every day.
Also consider that only about half of the eligible US population is even registered to vote, and only half of those registered voters bother to vote, and then only 51% of that sub-set actually control the election outcomes. So a mere 13% of the actual adult US population is deciding the fate of America. Hardly democracy in action.
In some European countries, voting is MANDATORY, and those who break the voting law are fined for their illegal behavior.
In Israel, true democracy reigns. There is no state by state breakdown of electors, so all states are empowered. There is pure democracy, so everyone with more than 2% of the popular vote gets representation in the Israeli Knesset. Arabs and Palestinians living in Israel have a vote and have legislative representation. There is no ingrained two-party system and no one party majority. Leaders rule by collectively building coalitions.
We could learn a few lessons from this political cooperation. What we have now is a loud minority called the TEA Party which is thwarting both democracy and the very functioning of American government through its childish terrorist tactics of obstruction.
