The Confederate States of America sought freedom from federal tyranny.
As Americans, we are all brain-washed with history lessons telling us that Abe Lincoln was the greatest American president ever. He freed the slaves! Well, on paper anyway.
After much consideration and rethinking, I now believe that Lincoln was a mass murderer, a domestic terrorist and the worst war criminal the nation has ever seen. Lincoln makes Assad look like an angel.
Abe Lincoln, the butcher of America, is solely responsible for killing more Americans than the combined total of ALL other US wars since!
And it was completely unnecessary!
All he had to do was allow the CSA the freedom of self-determination. But terrorists don't do that. They use violence to enforce their own agenda upon others.
Why can't a state un-join the Union? As the CSA sadly learned in 1861; once you are in, you will be hanged, shot, burned out and/or imprisoned before we allow you to succeed at seceding from the strangle-hold, Jonestown-like mentality of the good ol' all-powerful US of A. Unity or Death to you all! One Nation under God, OR we KILL you! How inspiring for freedom... Not.
  • Lincoln choosing to use war and violence to enforce his ideals upon the South was just as barbaric as slavery itself. The Butcher was not a hero; he was a domestic terrorist of gigantic proportions.
Abraham Lincoln could have avoided the entire Civil War and saved over a half million American lives, but instead he chose war, subjugation and the extreme violence of brother killing brother. The South wanted to stop the war, but Lincoln refused, killing more Americans so he could go down in history as the freer of the slaves. What a self-centered egomaniac. The end of slavery only happened on paper. The truth? The Rev. Martin Luther King is the person who REALLY freed the slaves. By 1960, almost 100 years after the Civil War and freedom for all black Americans, the KKK still controlled the south and its police and "justice" system. Black Americans could not own land or farm animals, could not vote, could not date non-blacks, could not go to college or in any way were they allowed to thrive or live free. They lived in constant fear of the KKK for 100 years after the end of slavery when a Confederate General founded the Klan to keep slavery largely intact. What Lincoln really did was divide the country so deeply that it took 100 to 150 years to heal. It was King and the Democratic team of Kennedy and Johnson who really stopped American slavery. Lincoln deserved to be executed for his war crimes, and he was. Too bad it didn't happen before the whole conflict started.
Slavery is an abomination, but so is murder, cultural decimation and wartime collateral damage. We justify all this by saying we now have a black President. True. Also true: more black Americans are in prison today than were owned as slaves in 1850 throughout the South. Although only 12% of all crack users are Black Americans, they represent 90% of all crack convictions. We have turned our prison system into the new slave Plantations of America, and by making it a white-owned private business, it is not much different than real slavery for those Black Americans unfairly incarcerated. We abolished slavery in name only. Our "freed" black slaves live in prisons today, isolated from their families, allowed no more freedom than the black slaves of the southern plantations. For this progress we murdered a half million Americans and bitterly split a nation?
The Civil War was not necessary, and murdering our neighbors was just as abominable as the practice of slavery. The state of Virginia was split in two by the conflict, with neighbors in the new West Virginia now killing their neighbors in Virgina. Lincoln was a hero to some but also a butcher of hundreds of thousands of his fellow Americans on both sides of the Mason-Dixon line. The end does not justify the means, by any means, and by all means, freedom will eventually triumph over oppression. Black Americans are STILL waiting for real emancipation. Prisons or Plantations; freedom of choice or not?

Had we allowed the south to secede, slavery would have eventually been outlawed as it is worldwide today, and all the hatred would not have existed. It would have been a more organic, non-violent, voluntary transition, not filled with murder and war.
True freedom means allowing all peoples, even the Confederate States of America, true self-determination. Succession from the Union should be an inalienable right of all peoples, north and south, east and west. You cannot kill people to prove you are right.

Well, you are about half correct. Lincoln was a terrorist/criminal for what he did to the Indigenous people also. The wrong part is as a child of desegregation era I know for a fact people who were black did have their own land, but the Democrats ran by the KKK made them vote that way and now are brain washed to continue to do so.

This, unfortunately, is not the first time I have heard this argument. But the reality is the civil war for the south was about protecting their rights as slave owners. For the North, it was about keeping the union together. One of Lincoln's biggest arguments was that any government that allows succession would disintegrate into anarchy. There were other arguments like he felt it was unconstitutional for them to succeed, but to me this one is the most relevant. If you ever read some of the states individual declarations of succession, they basically said they are now their own country. They did not talk about uniting with the other southern states, they talked about making their own laws and their own rules.

You argue Lincoln is responsible for the deaths of more American's than at any other time. I would argue that if the South has succeeded, this country (or countries) could have devolved into chaos. Other countries could have come over and divided us up and we would have been under some monarchy or dictatorship. Where would your self-determination be then?

Keeping our Democracy intact was critical and Lincoln knew this. Can you imagine the world without the United States? Without a stronghold of Democracy? We could be Russian or Chinese by now, or God forbid the Nazis.

It is easy to be an armchair quarterback in the country we live in now. You do not have to worry about persecution and you can speak your mind without worrying.

I for one think Lincoln was a hero.

Oh and that is not the Flag of the Confederate States. That is a battle flag.

Your theory that America would have fragmented if not for the civil war is a figment of you imagination. All you have to do is look at England. They have survived for centuries before America with many similar happenings through their history and dont hear them speak Russian or whatever.

Lincoln utilizing war and savagery to implement his standards upon the South was pretty much as brutal as bondage itself. The butcher was not a legend, he was a residential terrorist of colossal extents.

Amendment 25 to H.R. 4660, an Appropriations bill, marks the first time in history that Congress has voted (219-189) in favor of ending the federal DEA’s funding to attack medical marijuana outlets. After six previous failed attempts to pass similar legislation, Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) proposed Amendment 25, which passed with a record “high” 49 Republicans joining all 170 Democrats to vote for the pot provision. In the previous attempts, no more than 15 Republicans voted in favor.
